The short version
In Clear Lake we book party buses, limousines, shuttles, and coaches by the hour, with a four-hour minimum on Friday and Saturday nights. Many Clear Lake trips are larger company or retirement groups, so coaches and 30-plus-passenger buses come up often and should be reserved early. Downtown Houston is 30 to 45 minutes up I-45. Quotes are all-inclusive.
Someone on your team is finishing a thirty-year career, and the plan is a private room on the water, a lot of toasts, and nobody taking a chance on the drive home. That's the call we get more than any other around here.
The space program sets the rhythm in Clear Lake. Johnson Space Center and the engineering firms and offices along NASA Parkway and Bay Area Boulevard mean the groups we carry tend to be bigger and better organized than a typical Saturday-night crowd — retirements, December parties, milestone dinners, visiting teams coming in from Hobby. Wrap in Clear Lake City's neighborhoods, UH-Clear Lake, and a waterfront full of restaurants, and you've got a place where the headcount is almost always the first thing to solve.
Send-offs and the December office party
A retirement night here has a shape to it. The team reserves a room at a waterfront restaurant or a hall, and the guest of honor gets collected at home, usually without knowing. Thirty to forty people counting spouses. One vehicle, so the toasts don't turn into a driving problem.
Across the Houston-region inquiries we've analyzed in our Houston inquiry data, only about 5% of inquiries with a valid group size were for 31 to 40 passengers. That's not a Clear Lake number — we don't have one — but it tells you the practical thing: groups that size are uncommon, so vehicles that size are few, and one December Friday with three Bay Area company parties on it can absorb every last one.
December has a lean of its own. Among inquiries for October through December 2024 events, about 64% were for 11 to 20 passengers. That's a single quarter of 55 inquiries, so hold it loosely, but it lines up with the department-sized outings we see running alongside the big company nights.
Here's how the common ones tend to get sized.
| Trip | Vehicle | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Retirement dinner, 30 to 36 with spouses | 36-passenger coach bus | Forward-facing seats, one trip, easy for older guests |
| Department holiday outing, 15 to 20 | 22-passenger party bus | Room to stand and mingle between stops |
| Whole-company party, 45 to 55 | 56-passenger charter coach | The whole company in one trip, one invoice |
| Executive dinner, 6 to 10 | 10-passenger executive Sprinter | Business-like, fits valet lanes |
Invoicing, multi-vehicle days and timing are covered on our retirement party page, holiday party page and corporate events page, and the corporate transportation guide goes deeper on planning a company outing end to end.

Taking forty people to Space Center Houston
Space Center Houston, the visitor center for Johnson Space Center, pulls in school classes, scout troops, church groups, family reunions and conference attendees. Daytime trip, big group, almost every time.
A few things make it easier. Kids and families really do belong in rows of forward-facing seats with belts, so a shuttle or coach beats a party bus here — and if it's a class trip, the school field trip page works out how many adults you need along. The lots are large surface lots, which is a gift: the coach can unload near the entrance and then wait on site, which most venues won't allow. Book the hours you'll genuinely use, too, because a full visit with the tram tour over to the Johnson Space Center site eats most of a day; a short weekday visit can sometimes fit a three-hour daytime slot, but a full visit with lunch is nearer six. And if the group is in town for a conference, staying in Nassau Bay, Webster or near the Galleria, this makes a good afternoon add-on — our conference shuttle page covers that side.
A full-size motorcoach, the usual choice for a Space Center Houston group of forty or more.
What your street is like for a 35-foot vehicle
Clear Lake is part of the City of Houston, but its neighborhoods each behave differently, and drivers know the differences.
Bay Oaks. Gated, golf-course. The guardhouse wants the driver's name and a pickup window the day before. Streets are wide enough for a mid-size bus without drama, though a coach may be happier loading near the clubhouse.
Brook Forest, Clear Lake Forest, Pinebrook and Meadowgreen. Older and tree-lined off Bay Area Boulevard and El Camino Real, which is lovely right up until a tall bus meets a low branch. The driver stops where the clearance is safe rather than where the mailbox is.
Newer townhome sections. Those private drives are too narrow for a bus, so plan to meet at the street.
Offices and campus. The office parks along NASA Parkway, Bay Area Boulevard and Space Center Boulevard are the simplest pickups in the region. At UHCL, a parking lot beats a curb on Bay Area Boulevard every time.
Surprises take a little choreography: guests first, guest of honor last. Just tell us which stop is the secret one and the driver plays along.

Dinner on the water, five minutes from the office
Plenty of these nights never leave the lake, and that's a fine decision. The restaurants along NASA Parkway in Nassau Bay, the Seabrook waterfront and the Kemah Boardwalk all sit 5 to 15 minutes from most Clear Lake addresses. For a couple marking an anniversary with friends, a 14-passenger limousine is often the smarter pick — those lakeside lots are tight and the valet lanes are short.
With a bigger dinner group, the driver puts you down at the entrance and stages in a lot nearby. Give us the restaurant's name when you book so we can sort out in advance where something long can legally sit.
How far you actually are from everything
From around the Space Center on a Saturday evening:
- Kemah Boardwalk: 10 to 15 minutes.
- Hobby Airport: 20 to 30 minutes.
- Downtown, Midtown, or EaDo: 30 to 45 minutes by I-45.
- NRG Stadium: 30 to 40 minutes.
- Galveston's Strand: 35 to 45 minutes.
Local driving is already inside the price. When a route reaches past our standard one-hour area — an out-of-town trip does, and a day on the Galveston seawall can, depending how you route it — it's written as a long-distance quote with the extra drive time counted in from the start. Groups over in Webster and League City begin a few minutes nearer the freeway.

Match a vehicle →When it's Clear Lake High's turn
Clear Lake High, part of Clear Creek ISD, is the neighborhood campus for much of Clear Lake City, and its dances follow rules parents here already half know. Any Saturday in March, April or May is a six-hour booking. Whoever signs is 21 or older. And with no parent or guardian riding, students go without alcohol and without large backpacks — the driver owns that, not you. The prom page lays out a full evening.
Booking, paying, and what's in the number
Company bookings run like any other. Half secures the vehicle, and the other half lands 7 to 14 days ahead of the event, which fits most corporate card and invoice cycles without a fight. The figure we quote already contains the vehicle, driver, fuel, local miles, taxes, gratuity, unlimited stops, plus ice and water on party buses and limousines. Employees 21 and up can bring their own in cans or plastic. No food aboard, and overtime only comes into play after a 15-minute grace period, and only if the vehicle is free to stay. For reference, about 18% of historical quotes in our records fell between $1,500 and $1,999, usually longer hours or larger vehicles — past quotes, not current prices.
