The short version

A Katy party bus is booked by the hour with a professional driver, a four-hour minimum on Friday and Saturday nights, and a six-hour minimum on Saturdays in March, April, and May. Because Downtown is 35 to 50 minutes away on a weekend evening, most Katy groups need five to six hours. Quotes include driver, fuel, local mileage, taxes, gratuity, and unlimited stops.

You already know how the Katy Freeway behaves at six on a Saturday. That's the whole reason this page exists, because the drive east is the thing that quietly decides your vehicle, your hours, and what everybody pays at the end. LaCenterra is ten minutes from most of Cinco Ranch. Washington Avenue is forty-five on a generous evening. Everything else follows from which of those your night looks like.

How far east are you really going?

There are three ways out of Katy, and where you live picks one for you. North of the freeway — Elyson, Cane Island, Katy proper — it's I-10 and its managed lanes. South of it, out of Cinco Ranch, Seven Meadows, Grand Lakes or Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear, the Westpark Tollway is usually the faster road to the Galleria. The Grand Parkway stitches the two together and gets you to Cypress or Sugar Land without touching town at all.

That last column is the one everybody's eye skips over, and it's the one that ruins plans. Book four hours for a Saturday night in Midtown and the freeway takes half of it. Across the Houston-region inquiries we've analyzed in our Houston inquiry data, about 34% of inquiries with hours attached requested five to six hours, and about 11% asked for seven to eight. There's no Katy-only slice of that, but when someone tells us the plan is inside the Loop, five or six hours is what we recommend — and those regional numbers say that's an ordinary ask, not an upsell.

The case for never crossing Highway 6

Not every celebration needs downtown, and some of the best nights we run out here never leave the west side. Stay close and a three- or four-hour block is nearly all party and almost no windshield.

  • LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch for dinner and patios, with wide loading along the perimeter drives.
  • Katy Asian Town at the Grand Parkway and I-10 for a group dinner that can handle twenty people at round tables.
  • No Label Brewing in the old rice dryer complex near downtown Katy, a solid first stop for a brewery tour that continues east.
  • CityCentre and Memorial City for hotel bars, steakhouses, and live music without crossing the Beltway by much.

For nights like these the 18-passenger party bus or 22-passenger party bus is plenty. About 49% of the inquiries in our data were for 11 to 20 passengers, and neighborhood groups here land in that band constantly — eight couples off the same street, a birthday dinner for fifteen, a supper club that finally decided to stop driving separately.

Dance season, when ten schools want the same six Saturdays

High school nights are a big part of what we do here. Katy ISD runs ten comprehensive high schools now — Katy, Taylor, Mayde Creek, Cinco Ranch, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes, Tompkins, Paetow, Jordan and Freeman — and once you add Fulshear High in Lamar CISD for the Cross Creek Ranch families, the spring calendar gets crowded in a hurry.

Four things worth knowing before you call:

  • Spring Saturdays run six hours. March, April and May, any occasion. If the prom's in town, the drive alone justifies most of that.
  • An adult signs. The contract holder is 21 or older. Students ride; a parent books and does the ID and card check.
  • The ride is dry. With minors aboard and no parent or guardian riding along, there's no alcohol on the vehicle, and large backpacks stay home. The driver handles it, not you.
  • Count the confirmed. A bus rated for 22 carries 22, and that number doesn't bend at the curb for one more date.

Homecoming plays by different rules. It's an autumn Saturday with a four-hour minimum, the dance is usually on campus, and the actual event is the photos and the dinner. A typical night out here is photos at a neighborhood lake or a clubhouse lawn, dinner at LaCenterra or CityCentre, the dance, home. Our homecoming page and prom page go deeper, and the planner below turns one total into a per-family number before anyone has to ask.

Every master-planned neighborhood has its own trick

Katy is built out of master-planned communities, and each one has a habit the driver should know about.

Gated sections. Parts of Cinco Ranch, Seven Meadows, Grand Lakes, Firethorne and Avalon at Seven Meadows sit behind gates — some staffed, plenty on a keypad or a resident app. Add the driver as a guest the day before, or plan to meet the bus at the gate and ride in. A bus idling at a keypad at 5 PM is ten minutes straight off your block.

Newer sections with street parking. Out in Elyson, Cane Island and the newer stretches of Cross Creek Ranch, the lots are narrow and guests park both sides during a party. Ask people to leave the curb in front of the house clear, or pick an amenity center lot and check with the HOA that a short loading stop is fine.

One gathering house. Prom families routinely live across three subdivisions. Six separate pickups is an hour of your evening. One house for photos and boarding is fifteen minutes, and drop-offs at the end can still be door to door.

Older Katy. Near the historic downtown and Katy Heritage Park the streets are open and easy, but the rail line along Highway 90 can hold you for a long freight train. Drivers build that in.

Stuck between a limo and a bus for ten to fourteen people? The party bus vs limo comparison lays out the trade properly. The short version, for a Katy night specifically: on a 45-minute freeway ride, being able to stand up and move around matters far more than it does on a ten-minute hop to dinner.

Game days, the Rodeo, and one long day at the beach

NRG is 45 to 60 minutes out before an event, and the ride home after a Texans game or a Rodeo concert is where a driver genuinely earns the fare. Six hours for either, comfortably.

Astros games are their own trap: a weeknight first pitch collides head-on with I-10 rush hour. Leave Katy by 4:45 PM for a 7:10 game, or make peace with missing the first inning.

And a Galveston beach day is about 80 miles each way, 90 minutes or more once summer traffic has its say. That's a full day — eight hours or thereabouts.

On mileage, local driving is already in every quote, and a trip that goes more than about an hour's drive from our base is quoted as long-distance. The Energy Corridor, CityCentre and the Galleria are short runs from here. Downtown, NRG, Galveston and Brenham are longer drives, and any of them may be quoted as long-distance depending on the route. Give us the full route and the number that comes back already accounts for it.

Holding the date, and what the number covers

Half the quote holds it, and the rest is settled a week or two out. The figure is all-inclusive: vehicle, driver, fuel, local mileage, taxes, the driver's gratuity, unlimited stops within your hours, and ice and bottled water. Adults 21 and up bring their own in cans or plastic. No food, glitter, confetti or smoking on board. Overtime only starts after a 15-minute grace period, and only when the vehicle is free to stay.

For scale, about 47% of recorded historical quotes in our data fell between $1,000 and $1,499. Those are past quotes from across the region rather than current Katy prices, and a longer block or a bigger bus moves the number — the cost guide explains how.

Katy party bus FAQs

Still deciding on hours, vehicle size, or a route? Call or text (281) 549-2511 · Text us and we will talk it through.

How long does a party bus take from Katy to Downtown Houston on a Saturday night?

Plan on 40 to 55 minutes leaving around 6 PM, and 30 to 35 coming home after midnight. The managed lanes on the Katy Freeway help, but they don't erase a wreck at the Beltway. From south Katy the Westpark Tollway is often quicker to the Galleria, though not to Downtown.

Will the driver come inside my gated Cinco Ranch or Seven Meadows section?

Yes, as long as the gate lets the bus through. Add the driver to your guest list or share the visitor code the day before. If the gate is resident-only, just meet the bus at the entrance. And tell us in advance if your street ends in a tight cul-de-sac, because the largest buses may need to load at the corner.

Which Katy ISD schools do you see prom groups from?

All ten — Katy, Taylor, Mayde Creek, Cinco Ranch, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes, Tompkins, Paetow, Jordan and Freeman, plus Fulshear High families nearby. Because several schools share the same handful of Saturdays each spring, the mid-size buses go first. A parent 21 or older signs, and every spring Saturday runs six hours.

Is four hours enough for a Katy group going to Washington Avenue?

It's tight. Forty to fifty minutes each way leaves roughly two and a half hours for pickups, stops and boarding. Four hours works if there's one destination — a single dinner, or a concert drop. For a multi-stop night inside the Loop, five or six is the honest block.

Does long-distance pricing apply to trips from Katy?

Sometimes. It hangs on how far the route takes the vehicle from our base: past about an hour's drive, the quote includes the extra drive time. CityCentre, Memorial and the Galleria are short runs from here, while NRG Stadium, Galveston and out-of-town trips are longer and may be quoted as long-distance depending on the route. List every stop and the quote reflects the whole thing.

Can we do a homecoming group on a Friday instead of Saturday?

Sure — Friday nights run a four-hour minimum. Just remember Katy ISD football at Legacy Stadium and Rhodes Stadium packs Katy Fort Bend Road and the I-10 frontage on fall Fridays, so allow extra time if your route passes the stadium complex near kickoff or when the game lets out.

Where can a bus wait while we eat at LaCenterra or CityCentre?

Both have perimeter drives that work for loading, but neither wants a 30-foot vehicle parked in a fire lane for ninety minutes. The driver drops you at the closest safe point, stages nearby, and comes back when you text. Give about ten minutes' notice before the group walks out.

How much does a Katy prom bus cost per student?

It depends on the vehicle and the six-hour minimum, and we don't publish rates because they move with the date. As a reference point only, about 47% of historical quotes in our data landed between $1,000 and $1,499. Divide the quote you get by confirmed riders — the total already includes tax and gratuity, so that per-student figure is the real one.
