The short version

Across 454 historical Houston inquiries, about 49% of groups were 11 to 20 passengers, about 72% of inquiries that named a vehicle mentioned a party bus, birthdays were the most common occasion at about 32%, just over half of groups asked for three to four hours, and about 47% of recorded historical quotes fell between $1,000 and $1,499. These are inquiries, not bookings, and historical quotes are not current prices.

Most numbers you will read about party bus rentals are national guesses or figures with no source at all. This page is different in one specific way: every percentage below is counted from our own records of people asking about group transportation in and around Houston. Nothing is estimated and nothing is borrowed. Where a number rests on a small group of inquiries we say so, and where the group was too small to mean anything we left the number out entirely.

We publish it because it is useful. If you are trying to work out whether your group of sixteen is unusual (it is not), whether four hours is a normal ask (it is), or what a realistic total looked like for people in your position, a real local figure beats a generic one. The same data drives the recommendations across this site, from the group-size planner to the Houston cost guide.

How big are Houston groups?

Of the 409 inquiries that included a usable headcount, nearly half were for 11 to 20 passengers and almost a third were for ten or fewer. Put together, roughly four in five Houston groups are twenty people or smaller. Groups above thirty are rare — about one inquiry in twenty.

The practical reading: the vehicles most people need are the mid-size ones, such as the 18-passenger and 22-passenger party buses, which is exactly why they are the first to be spoken for on a busy Saturday. Small groups have the widest choice, since a limousine, a Sprinter, or a small bus will all work. Large groups have the narrowest, because few vehicles seat more than thirty.

Which vehicles do people ask about?

Among the 178 inquiries with a recorded quoted vehicle, about 72% mentioned a party bus, about 16% a limousine, and about 7% a Sprinter van. An inquiry can mention more than one vehicle, so these shares overlap and do not add to 100%.

Look one level down and a clearer picture appears. Party bus inquiries cluster at 11 to 20 passengers (about 57%), while limousine inquiries are almost all ten or fewer (about 89%, from a small cohort of 28). That matches how the vehicles work: past ten or twelve people a stretch limousine stops being comfortable, and groups move to a bus. If you are weighing the two, the party bus versus limo guide and the vehicle comparison tool walk through it.

What are people celebrating?

Of 251 inquiries with a recorded event type, birthdays lead by a wide margin at about 32%. Weddings account for about 6%, bachelor parties about 5%, and concerts about 4%. The remainder is spread thinly across dozens of occasions, none large enough on its own to report responsibly.

Birthdays are common enough that we can look inside them. About 57% of birthday groups were 11 to 20 passengers and about 34% were ten or fewer. Among the smaller set with a vehicle recorded, about 68% mentioned a party bus and about 24% a limousine — a higher limousine share than the dataset overall, which fits the number of small birthday dinners in the mix. For weddings, bachelor parties, and concerts we report only the overall share, because the groups are too small to slice further.

How many hours do groups ask for?

Of 101 inquiries with a valid requested duration, about 53% asked for three to four hours, about 34% for five to six, and about 11% for seven to eight. Three to four hours is also where rental minimums sit, so some of that first group is asking for the minimum rather than for what the night needs.

Houston is a very large, spread-out city, and the most common planning mistake we see is a four-hour request wrapped around an itinerary that crosses town twice. If your plan has more than two stops, or includes both a suburb and the inner loop, you are probably in the five-to-six-hour third. The guide to choosing your hours shows how to work it out from your stop list.

What did historical quotes look like?

This is the section to read most carefully. Of 115 inquiries with a recorded historical quote between $300 and $10,000, about 47% fell between $1,000 and $1,499, about 30% between $300 and $999, and about 18% between $1,500 and $1,999. For party bus inquiries specifically the pattern is similar: about 44%, 36%, and 15%.

A historical quote is the total once quoted for a whole trip on a particular date in the past. It is not what was paid, not a current rate, and not an offer. Dates, hours, vehicle size, and demand all move a quote, and those conditions change. What the distribution is good for is calibration: if you expected a Saturday night for eighteen people to cost $400, the record says that would have been unusual; if you expected $1,200, you were in the most common band. Divide any total by your riders to get the figure that matters — $1,250 across eighteen people is about $70 each. For how quotes are built today, see the cost guide or run your own numbers in the cost planner.

Where do inquiries come from?

Of the 95 inquiries with a recorded city, about 72% were associated with Houston itself. The rest were spread across surrounding cities in counts too small to publish individually. A recorded city reflects where the trip was associated, not proof of where anyone lives. Inside the city, the patterns largely mirror the whole dataset, with an even stronger lean toward party buses. We cover pickups across the Houston-area cities we serve.

Method and limits

  • Source. 454 historical Houston-area inquiries from our own records, combined into one dataset. 407 carry an event date, running 2023 through August 2026.
  • Privacy. Only aggregate counts were used. No names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, messages, or payment details were retrieved or published.
  • Inquiries, not bookings. The figures describe what people asked about. They do not measure completed trips, customers served, or revenue, and they are not an estimate of the whole Houston market.
  • Cohorts vary. Not every inquiry records every field, so each finding lists its own cohort: 409 inquiries had a usable group size, 251 an event type, 178 a quoted vehicle, 115 a historical quote, 101 a duration, and 95 a city.
  • Strength labels. “Strong” findings come from the largest cohorts. “Directional” findings rest on at least 25 inquiries and 5 matches and are shown with that caution. Anything below that floor is not published at all — which is why you will not see, for example, a prom or quinceañera breakdown here.
  • Overlap. Vehicle categories can overlap when an inquiry mentioned more than one option.
  • Version. Method houston-v1.0, extracted 2026-09-18. We will update this page when the dataset is refreshed.

Is this data about bookings or inquiries?

Inquiries. It describes what people asked about when they contacted us, not completed bookings, customers served, or revenue. We say "inquiries" everywhere on purpose.

Because the numbers were too small to publish honestly. We set a floor of 25 eligible inquiries and 5 matches before a finding can appear, and anything below it is left out rather than dressed up as a trend.

Does the data include personal information?
